Parco Archeologico di Elea Velia
Situated at Ascea Marina, the archaeological park of Elea/Velia is considered one of the gems of the National Park of Cilento (Parco Nazionale del Cilento). Founded in the mid-6th century BC by Greek exiles, the city is renowned for two eminent philosophers, Parmenides and Zeno, the founders of the Eleatic school of philosophy. The itinerary begins from the lower part of the city, where most of the buildings date back to the Hellenistic and Roman eras. It is especially worth visiting Porta Rosa, the beautiful gate that had the dual role of linking the two districts of the city and connecting the two summits of the acropolis.
