Grotte di Castelcivita
The Castelcivita caves are situated in the Alburni mountain range in the province of Salerno. They consist of a series of karst caves full of stalactites and stalagmites with an extraordinary range of shapes. It is unique and incredible heritage site with caves and sites of natural interest that can be explored with itineraries and the help of specialist guides. The site is also known as the caves of Spartacus after the gladiator who stayed here while he was planning the slave revolt against Rome. The tour of the caves provides the chance to admire a large waterfall which is a yellowy-white stream of limestone; the Angel terraces, a fascinating stalagmite formation, a lake (Lago Terminale) influenced by rainfall, and the death wells which are deep caverns filled almost entirely with water.
