The state archive of Naples is housed in the monastery of SS. Severino e Sossio in the very heart of the historic centre. It is one of the most important cultural institutions in Europe but, strangely, one of the least well-known monuments of the city. Visitors can observe the room once inhabited by Torquato Tasso, the Marble hall (Atrio del Marmi) and the Plane Tree hall (Atrio del Platano), decorated with frescoes by Antonio Solario.
