Gaiola Word Oceans Day 2019: discovering marine reserve

This is one of the most suggestive places in Naples: the Marine Reserve “Parco Sommerso di Gaiola”, established in 2002, is a wonderful natural oasis in the heart of the city. It takes its name from the two islets that rise in the bay of Posillipo, in the Gulf of Naples, where you can immerse yourself into a new world with great variety of habitats for marine organisms, but also geological and historical-archaeological assets. From its depths, in fact, remains of landing places, nymphaeums, walkways and fish ponds are clearly visible, tanks for breeding fish very popular with the Roman aristocracy between the end of the 2nd century BC. and the 1st century AD

“Gaiola World Oceans Day 2019” by Gaiola Marine Area on the occasion of  World Oceans Day on Saturday June 8 to raise awareness of respect for the marine ecosystem and its defense. The volunteers of the marine park and the researchers will welcome families and children, who will participate together with educational workshops and games dedicated to the marine universe. One focus will be dedicated to  plastic and pollution of the seas.
